Best Print on Demand Supplier for Rugs and Doormats (2026): Area Rugs, Doormats and Bath Mats Compared
Quick answer: for rugs and doormats it's a two-provider choice. Printful keeps a short line with published base costs: a chenille Area Rug at $24.54 for 24 x 36 inches, $49.16 for 36 x 60 and $76.76 for 48 x 72, each sold in both portrait and landscape, plus a memory foam Bath Mat at $17.55 and $27.71. Printify has the range: dedicated doormats, a rubber door mat, outdoor, round, washable and heavy duty rugs, and area rugs up to 108 x 144 inches. Gelato doesn't carry rugs or mats as of October 2026, so it isn't in the running.
Rugs are one of the most interesting home products in print on demand. They're a big canvas, they sell as gifts and as room decor, and a funny or personal doormat is one of the easiest impulse buys there is. They're also a product where picking the wrong item is easy, because an indoor area rug, an outdoor doormat and a bath mat are built from different materials for different floors.
ApparelHub connects to Printful, Printify and Gelato, all live for our merchants, and we don't take a cut of anyone's print margin, so we've got no reason to push you toward one. Every cost, size and print area below came from the providers' own catalogs this month.
Which supplier is best for print on demand rugs?
- Printful if you want known costs and a simple line. One Area Rug in three sizes, each offered in portrait and landscape, and a memory foam Bath Mat in two sizes.
- Printify if you want variety. Its catalog includes area rugs, a round rug, an outdoor rug, washable and washable chenille rugs, a heavy duty floor mat, three different doormats, and several bath mat options. Different print shops make different products, so materials and quality vary with the one you pick.
- Gelato isn't an option today. Its catalog has no rug, doormat or bath mat category. Gelato is strong for apparel, wall art and paper goods, but floor products aren't part of its line.
What do print on demand rugs actually cost?
These are Printful's published base costs as of October 2026. Base cost is production only; shipping and tax come on top.
| Product | Provider | Size | Base cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Area Rug | Printful | 24 x 36 in (or 36 x 24) | $24.54 |
| Area Rug | Printful | 36 x 60 in (or 60 x 36) | $49.16 |
| Area Rug | Printful | 48 x 72 in (or 72 x 48) | $76.76 |
| Bath Mat | Printful | 24 x 17 in | $17.55 |
| Bath Mat | Printful | 34 x 21 in | $27.71 |
Two details from Printful's own product notes are worth knowing before you build. The Area Rug is 100% polyester chenille with hemmed edges, a coated backing and a grey underside, printed on one side, and Printful says the finished size can vary by a couple of inches either way. The Bath Mat has a memory foam microfiber face with an anti-slip backing. Both are currently listed as available to ship in the United States only, so check that against where your buyers are before you commit.
Printify's costs aren't in the table, on purpose. Printify doesn't put base cost in the catalog data that connected platforms read. The real per-variant cost comes back when the product is created on Printify's side, which happens as part of building it, so on ApparelHub it lands on your variants automatically. What you can't do is sort Printify's rugs by cost before you build. If you're comparing, build the same design on a Printify area rug and on Printful's and look at the real numbers side by side.
What rug and mat types does each provider offer?
Printful keeps it small:
- Area Rug: 24 x 36, 36 x 60 and 48 x 72 inches, each in a portrait and a landscape variant at the same price.
- Bath Mat: 24 x 17 and 34 x 21 inches, white base, full print.
Printify has more because its catalog is the sum of many print shops. As of October 2026 the range includes:
- Area rugs: a multi-size area rug running from 24 x 36 up to 108 x 144 inches, including a 30 x 96 inch runner.
- Specialty rugs: a 60 x 60 inch round rug, an outdoor rug from 24 x 36 to 60 x 84 inches, a 31 x 51 inch washable rug, a washable chenille rug in three sizes, and a heavy duty floor mat from 18 x 24 up to 48 x 72 inches.
- Doormats: a 24 x 16 inch doormat, an 18 x 30 inch polyester doormat, and a rubber door mat in 12 x 24 and 10 x 22 inch options.
- Bathroom: a bath mat in the same two sizes as Printful's, and a three-piece bath mat set.
That range is the real reason to use Printify here. If you want a round nursery rug, a long hallway runner, an outdoor patio rug or a proper entrance doormat, Printful doesn't carry the product. Catalog lines change often, so check the live listing before you commit to a launch.
Do you need a real doormat, or will an area rug do?
This is the question most new rug sellers skip, and it shows up in reviews.
Printful doesn't have a dedicated doormat. Its landscape Area Rug at 36 x 24 inches is the closest thing, and it works well inside the front door, but it's a chenille rug. It isn't designed to sit outside in the rain or take boots being scraped on it.
If your listing says "doormat" and your buyer puts it on the porch, sell a product built for that. Printify's doormat options are the ones to look at, and the rubber door mat is the obvious candidate for outdoor use. Order a sample and leave it outside for a week before you write the product description, because the description is where you set the expectation that decides whether a review is five stars or one.
The same logic applies in the bathroom. A printed area rug next to a shower isn't a bath mat. Use an actual bath mat, from either provider.
Why does orientation matter so much on a rug?
Because text on a rug has to read from where people stand.
A doormat with a greeting reads left to right when you're standing in front of it, so it's a landscape product. A runner reads along its length. A wall-style decorative rug can be portrait. Printful handles this by selling every rug size as two separate variants, portrait and landscape, and that's the right way to think about it: they're two different designs, not one design you rotate.
Don't rotate a portrait design 90 degrees to make a landscape doormat. The words end up running sideways. Make the landscape version as its own file, with the text composed horizontally from the start.
Why does one design crop differently on each rug size?
Sizes inside one rug product are often different shapes, and one image has to be fitted to each.
Printify's multi-size area rug is the clearest example. 24 x 36 is a 1.5 to 1 rectangle, 36 x 60 is about 1.67 to 1, 60 x 84 is 1.4 to 1, 108 x 144 is about 1.33 to 1, and the 30 x 96 runner is 3.2 to 1. One file can't sit the same way on all of them. A border that looks perfect on the small rug will be trimmed on the runner, and a centered motif will look lost on the big one.
Three habits fix almost all of it:
- Keep text and key artwork away from the edges. Hemmed edges fold over the outer margin, and furniture usually sits on the edge of a living room rug anyway.
- Check every size's preview. A mockup of 24 x 36 tells you nothing about the runner.
- Give outlier sizes their own file. A runner and a near-square room rug are two compositions. Treat them that way.
We saw the same thing with beach towels and desk mats. The fix is always to design for the shape, not just the size.
How big does a rug image need to be?
Very big. Printify's recommended image sizes show the scale:
- Area rug: about 4,875 x 7,215 pixels.
- Round rug: about 12,285 x 12,285 pixels.
- Washable rug: about 20,670 x 13,642 pixels.
- Bath mat: about 14,040 x 8,970 pixels.
- Polyester doormat: about 6,045 x 3,705 pixels.
A 1,024 pixel square image stretched across a 5 foot rug will look soft, so plan for upscaling and build for the largest size you'll sell.
Two more rules carry over from every all-over printed product:
- Fill edge to edge. A printed rug has no transparent area the way a t-shirt does. If you want a charcoal doormat, the charcoal has to run to every edge of the file, or you'll get a pale border.
- Choose a forgiving background for floors. Doormats and entrance rugs get walked on. Darker, patterned backgrounds hide dirt far better than a large white field.
For file prep in general, see what a print-ready file for print on demand actually needs.
How do you price a rug so it's actually profitable?
- Price against landed cost, not base cost. Rugs are heavy and bulky, so shipping is a big share of the total, much bigger than on a tee. With Printful you can get production plus shipping plus tax before you confirm an order, so use that number.
- Price each size on its own. A $24.54 small rug and a $76.76 large one shouldn't share a flat markup. Larger rugs can carry a premium as statement pieces, while doormats sell best at an impulse-friendly price.
- Sell the occasion. Custom doormats move around housewarmings, holidays and new home gifts. Nursery rugs and pet-themed rugs sell to very specific buyers. Pick the moment, then the product.

Where ApparelHub fits, and where it doesn't
ApparelHub sits above the providers. You connect your own Printful, Printify and Gelato accounts, keep your own pricing, and we take no share of your print margin.
For rugs and doormats specifically:
- Printful and Printify rugs can both be built from one place, and fulfillment is chosen per product, so your rugs can come from one provider while your tees come from another, all in the same storefront. More on that in connecting multiple print providers to one storefront.
- Printful's published costs are visible while you browse, and Printify's real cost lands on your variants automatically when you build.
- Full landed estimates for Printful before you confirm an order.
- Listings on the channels you already use: Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix and TikTok Shop are all live.
- An agent surface at apparelhub.ai/agents. ApparelHub doesn't run an agent for you and doesn't have its own AI. We expose the whole pipeline through an API, an MCP connector and a Claude skill, so the assistant you already use can compose a landscape doormat design at the right proportions, build it on both providers and compare real costs. You bring the agent.
What we won't claim: Gelato rugs aren't available because Gelato doesn't make them, we can't sort Printify's rugs by cost before you build one, and we can't tell you how a particular print shop's rug feels underfoot or holds up outdoors. Order a sample for that.
Frequently asked questions
Does Gelato do print on demand rugs or doormats? Not as of October 2026. Gelato's catalog has no rug, doormat or bath mat category, so your choice is Printful or Printify.
What's the cheapest print on demand rug? On Printful, the 24 x 36 inch Area Rug at $24.54 base cost, in either portrait or landscape. The smaller Bath Mat is $17.55. Printify doesn't publish cost in its catalog data, so build a candidate there to see real numbers.
Can I sell custom doormats with print on demand? Yes. Printify carries dedicated doormats, including a rubber door mat, and that's the better choice for outdoor use. Printful's landscape 36 x 24 Area Rug works inside the door but isn't built as an outdoor mat.
Can I sell a rug in several sizes in one listing? Yes, but check every size's preview. The sizes are often different shapes, so one image crops differently on each, and a runner usually needs its own file.
Where to start
If you want the simple path, start with Printful's Area Rug in landscape. The costs are published, there are only three sizes, and you get a landed estimate before you commit. If you want doormats, runners, round or outdoor rugs, build two or three Printify candidates and compare real costs.
Either way, order one sample and actually walk on it. That one sample answers the color, texture and durability questions for good.
Create a free account, connect your own provider accounts, and build the same rug design on Printful and Printify to compare real costs side by side. If you'd rather hand that loop to an assistant you already use, start at apparelhub.ai/agents.
