Best Print on Demand Supplier for Dresses (2026): Printful vs Printify vs Gelato

Quick answer: Printful is the best print on demand supplier for dresses if you want published prices and the widest size run. It carries eight all-over print dresses, from a $20.35 cotton bodycon to a $37.40 long sleeve midi, and three of them go up to 6XL. Printify has a comparable range of seven dresses, including a hoodie dress and a girls' sundress that Printful doesn't offer, but it doesn't publish base cost in its catalog feed, so you see the real number once you build. Gelato doesn't carry dresses at all. Every number below came from the live catalogs in October 2026.

Dresses are one of the few print on demand products where the print is the whole garment. There's no blank colour to choose and no chest logo to place. Almost every dress in these catalogs is all-over print, sewn from panels that were printed first, so the design covers the fabric edge to edge and the base is white. That changes how you design, how you price, and which supplier makes sense.

If you're new to the technique itself, our guide to all-over print print on demand explains how cut-and-sew printing works. This post is about the dress specifically: which supplier carries what, what it costs, and where dress listings usually go wrong.

We run all three suppliers. ApparelHub connects to Printful, Printify and Gelato, all three are live for our merchants, and we don't take a cut of anyone's print margin, so we don't have a reason to push you toward one.

Which print on demand supplier is best for dresses?

It comes down to which of these matters most.

That last point matters more than it sounds. Plenty of sellers pick one supplier for t-shirts and assume the rest of the range will follow. For dresses, it won't on Gelato.

What does a print on demand dress actually cost?

These are live base costs pulled from each catalog in October 2026. Base production cost only, before shipping, tax and channel fees. Where cost changes by size, the table shows the starting price.

Supplier Dress Base cost (from) Sizes
Printful All-Over Print Cotton Bodycon Dress $20.35 XS to XL
Printful All-Over Print Cotton T-Shirt Dress $23.31 2XS to 6XL
Printful All-Over Print Bodycon Dress $24.47 XS to XL
Printful All-Over Print Cotton Skater Dress $28.00 XS to 3XL
Printful All-Over Print T-Shirt Dress $28.51 2XS to 6XL
Printful All-Over Print Skater Dress $34.28 XS to 3XL
Printful All-Over Print Slip Dress $35.65 XS to 2XL, black or white
Printful All-Over Print Long Sleeve Midi Dress $36.67 2XS to 6XL
Printify Women's Skater Dress (AOP) not in the catalog feed XS to 2XL
Printify T-Shirt Dress (AOP) not in the catalog feed XS to 2XL
Printify Women's Hoodie Dress (AOP) not in the catalog feed S to 2XL
Printify Women's Casual Dress (AOP) not in the catalog feed check the catalog
Printify Women's Cut & Sew Racerback Dress (AOP) not in the catalog feed check the catalog
Printify Women's Long Sleeve Dance Dress (AOP) not in the catalog feed check the catalog

The spread is wide. The cheapest Printful dress is $20.35 and the most expensive standard size of the midi is $37.40, nearly double. A seller who lists "dresses" at one price across styles will either overprice the bodycon or lose margin on the midi.

Why are Printful's cotton dresses cheaper than the originals?

This was the most surprising thing in the data. Printful runs two versions of three of its dress styles: the original all-over print dress and a newer cotton version printed with a different process. In every pair, the cotton one is cheaper.

Style Original Cotton version Difference
Bodycon $24.47 $20.35 $4.12
T-shirt dress (size M) $29.08 $23.31 $5.77
Skater (size M) $34.28 $28.00 $6.28

So it's worth checking both before you pick. On the skater, that's over six dollars of margin per sale on the same silhouette.

They aren't identical products, though. The print areas differ slightly, the cotton skater's top panels are smaller than the original's, and the fabric will feel and drape differently. Order a sample of whichever one you're leaning toward before you build a collection on it. A dress is something buyers judge by how it hangs, and you can't see that in a mockup.

Why can't you see Printify's dress costs up front?

Because Printify doesn't include base cost in the catalog data it publishes to platforms. Every dress variant comes through with a cost of zero in the feed. That's not an integration bug, the number simply isn't there.

It doesn't mean typing costs in by hand. Printify returns the real per-variant cost when a product is created on its side, and building the product through ApparelHub, mockup included, does exactly that, so the cost lands on every variant as part of the build. What you can't do is sort Printify's dresses by price before building anything. If you want to compare its skater dress against Printful's, build it, read the real numbers off the variants, and compare like for like.

How big are the print areas on a dress?

Dresses aren't one print area. They're several panels, and each one is a different shape. Each supplier measures at its own template scale, so compare proportions rather than raw numbers.

The practical takeaway: a dress design is a pattern system, not one image. The easiest approach is a seamless repeating pattern, scaled consistently across every panel. A single large graphic, like a portrait or a big logo, is much harder, because it has to survive being cut across the bodice and skirt or wrapped around the body.

What goes wrong with all-over print dresses?

Three things catch most sellers out.

The seams. Cut-and-sew printing means the fabric is printed flat, cut into pieces, and sewn together. Don't expect a pattern to line up perfectly across every seam, and don't place anything important, like text or a face, where a seam or a side panel will cut through it. Busy, small-scale patterns hide seams well. Large, precise graphics expose them.

The white base. On a dress the print is the colour. If your design leaves areas empty, they come out as the base fabric, which is white on almost every dress here. If you want a black dress with a pattern on it, the black has to be part of your artwork, filling every panel edge to edge.

Scale. A pattern that looks great on a phone screen can look tiny across a whole skirt, or huge on an XS bodice. Look at the rendered mockup at every size you plan to sell, not just one. If your pattern has a clear motif, check that it reads at a sensible size on the skirt, which is the largest and most visible panel.

How do you price a dress so it makes money?

Work forward from the dress you actually picked, at the size you sell most.

Take Printful's cotton skater at $28.00. At a $54.99 retail price, you've got $26.99 before your channel's transaction fee and shipping. The cotton bodycon at $20.35 has more room at a lower price point: at $44.99, there's $24.64 left before fees and shipping.

How many dress styles does each supplier carry?

Supplier Dress styles (Oct 2026) What stands out
Printful 8 Bodycon, skater, t-shirt, slip and long sleeve midi, with cotton versions of three; sizes up to 6XL on two styles
Printify 7 Skater, t-shirt, casual, racerback, dance, hoodie dress and a girls' sundress
Gelato 0 No dresses found in its catalog

Where ApparelHub fits, and where it doesn't

ApparelHub runs the pipeline around these suppliers rather than replacing them. Printful, Printify and Gelato are all live today, you connect your own accounts, and whatever margin you have with them stays yours. We don't take a percentage of print cost.

For dresses specifically, that means browsing both dress catalogs side by side with the costs above, real Printify costs landing on your variants when you build, mockups rendered by the supplier that would actually make the dress so you can check every panel before listing, and margin guardrails that can hold an order instead of fulfilling it at a loss when a cost moves. Listings sync to Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix and TikTok Shop.

What it doesn't do: we don't make the dress, we can't add dresses to Gelato's catalog, and we can't make Printify publish a base cost it doesn't publish, so price shopping its catalog before building still happens in Printify. A mockup also isn't a sample, so for a garment where drape matters this much, order one. We don't integrate Etsy either, and we've explained why.

If you'd rather not do the comparison by hand, you can connect your own AI agent, Claude or any assistant that supports connectors, and have it compare dress blanks, build the product across every panel and check the mockups through ApparelHub. Agent access is on every plan, including Free, and setup is at apparelhub.ai/agents.

Frequently asked questions

Which supplier has the cheapest print on demand dresses? Of the published prices, Printful's All-Over Print Cotton Bodycon Dress is the cheapest at $20.35 base. Printify may be cheaper on specific styles, but you find out by building the product, since its costs aren't in the catalog feed.

Does Gelato sell print on demand dresses? Not as of October 2026. A search of Gelato's catalog for dresses returned nothing, so if you use Gelato for the rest of your range, you'll need Printful or Printify for dresses.

Can I sell plus size dresses with print on demand? Yes. Printful's All-Over Print T-Shirt Dress and Long Sleeve Midi Dress both run up to 6XL, in both the original and cotton versions of the t-shirt dress. Printify's dresses we checked top out at 2XL. Price the larger sizes separately, since each size step above XL costs about $2 more.

Can I put a single large graphic on a dress? You can, but it's harder than a pattern. The design is split across panels, so a big graphic gets cut at the seams between bodice, skirt and sides. A seamless repeating pattern is much more forgiving.

Can I use the same dress design with more than one supplier? Yes, but expect to adjust it. The panels have different proportions on each supplier, so you'll usually need to re-fit the pattern to each template. Having a second supplier ready is still a sensible backup plan for when a print provider runs out of stock.

Where to start

Pick the silhouette first, check whether Printful has a cheaper cotton version of it, and design a pattern that survives being cut into panels. Order a sample before you build a collection.
